Abstract
Ferroptosis is a relatively new term for a process known to biology for a very long time. It has a better understood pathway and genomic profile than previously understood. In this CME Dr. Anderson will look at the data around this process, what this data adds to our previous knowledge of ‘ferroptosis’ pathways, and how this process may be exploited (or avoided) in disease states.
Objectives:
- Define ferroptosis
- Describe the difference between ferroptosis and other types of cell death
- Define the biochemical triggers of ferroptosis
- Describe the pharmacological manipulation of ferroptosis
CME Outline:
- Biochemistry and Physiology of Ferroptosis
- Purpose of ferroptosis in normal function
- Aggravation of disease by ferroptosis
- Chronic infections
- Lipid peroxidation
- Cancer
- Use of ferroptosis in disease states
- Chronic disease states
- Cancer
