QUESTION: For administering IV therapy how do you adjust the dose/drip/quantity in liver failure? Is there a calculation for determining liver function and then how do you adjust an IV accordingly?

Case: esophageal cancer mets to liver. Oncologist determined

ANSWER: In liver disease / failure IV can have absolutely no effect in some cases and some detox triggering in others. Mostly IV nutrients are no problem. Choloretics (Curcumin, Phospholipids) are avoided or used sparingly.

I usually do 1/2 an IV nutrient formula, or check LFT’s and go on, increasing unless LFT’s rise. Normally IV in kidney deficit is much more an issue.
