QUESTION: What is the best way to use IV therapy to augment radiation treatments?

ANSWERS: We use the following schedule of therapy in the post-Radiation patient:

  • 2X a week for 4-8 weeks depending on level of Rad side effects
  • 1X a week for 8 weeks
  • 1X every 2 weeks until Sx stabilized or resolved
  • Oral support for mitochondria, CM and GSH levels throughout

As for nutrients and radiation interference, most Rad Onc’s will say “any” nutrient will interfere with the efficacy of the therapy. There is an argument for GSH before and after RadTx which is difficult to refute if one looks at the data. There is data showing GSH augmentation “during” RadTx while cyto-protective (via DNA maintenance likely) it may also diminish the cytotoxic radiation damage. As a counterpoint however it appears more likely that IVC during RadTx is more likely to protect normal cells as well as enhance RadTx, hence the current idea to restrict IV during RadTx to hydration and IVC and have more options pre and post.
