QUESTION: What is difference between the different IV Curcumins?

ANSWER: IV Curcumin is made in FOUR forms:

  1. Lipid (in a real PTC Liposphere) the only one before our work on IV CUR that was ever used. Very hard to make properly and may be quite effective. Dripped slow like PTC.
  2. CUR in cyclodextrin – Some call it water soluble and some not. Acts like the lipospheric form. Tricky kinetics, and IME dosing different from lipospheric…. Faster administration but still a load on the vein to run.
  3. True solution of CUR: Stabilized with a non-bound agent for solubility. Infuses slow but very vein tolerant. We are running kinetic studies now and have a few very positive outcomes.
  4.  A true (albeit touchy) water soluble solution (Canada is the best place to get this). Really alkaline to the point if not dilute will ruin the vein and potentially kill the patient. That said a worthwhile form IF diluted a great deal and run slowly. As an example in our patients getting 30-40 mg/kg of the ‘solution’ form they have an IV that lasts 7-10 hours. Well tolerated. In lower dose IV’s (cancer synergy, autoimmunity etc) and they are getting under 400-500 mg we can give it in 500 – 1000 ml and over 2-3 hours
