QUESTION: I’m working on convincing my MD colleagues to use methylcobalamin injections instead of cyanocobalamin for our chronic pain patients, in particular those with a cancer diagnosis. Do you know of any studies showing adverse effects using cyanocobalamin with cancer or studies showing why methylcobalamin is better than cyano for this population?

ANSWER: Although bottom line is “we know it is bad to use a lot of cyano- and better to use Methyl… There is no hard data to support that assertion. SO basically you cannot ‘win’ on the basis of a data based argument.

One tiny thing that may help is that one of the only cancer Tx studies using B12 to ‘treat’ CA used Methyl B12 due to a better potential anti-tumor effect. (below)
