Basic Science Review Overview
The current format includes a twenty-plus module series of presentations arranged in a case / organ / complaint format based on the clinical science format used by NABNE / NPLEX.
Information based on learning content areas and seventeen years teaching and writing board exam questions will be given in the following basic medical science areas:
- Anatomy
- Physiology
- Biochemistry
- Pathology
- Microbiology – Immunology
Based on the change by NABNE to an integrated case-based basic science examination these five topics will be integrated to the degree possible to enhance integrated learning. Some areas such as cellular physiology, portions of biochemistry, and portions of immunology will necessarily be taught separately as required.
The topic schedule is as follows:
- Introductory cell physiology, general pathology and microbial physiology.
- The neurological system; anatomy, physiology, pathology and biochemistry
- The Cardiovascular system; hematopoesis, anatomy, physiology, pathology and biochemistry
- The Pulmonary system; anatomy, physiology, pathology and biochemistry
- The Musculo-skeletal system; anatomy, physiology, pathology and biochemistry
