Abstract

Watch LIVE on Tuesday December 17th, 2024 @ 5:30 PM PST

Although the spectrum of “mast-cell disorders” is much more far-reaching than histamine (or even mast cells), a thorough understanding of histamine biochemistry, physiology, and pharmacology is at the base of dealing with mast cell spectrum issues. In this “Part 1” of the MCAS series Dr. Anderson will outline the ways histamine is used in the human body, the ways it regulates and disrupts both allergic phenomenon and CNS activity, and how it is naturally released and broken down by the body. At each point the intersections of pharmacology and drug applications will be highlighted.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe histamine formation and release
  • Describe peripheral and central histamine actions and pharmacology
  • Describe natural histamine metabolism
  • Describe histamine metabolic cofactors
  • Describe appropriate histamine pharmaceuticals
