Iron status and the administration of iron in patients who have cancer is a delicate balance. Too low and the patient often has significant comorbidity – too much and the cancer can progress. There are well thought out guidelines for the use of iron in patients with cancer and this presentation summarizes those guidelines as well as the testing and assessment required.
The attached PDF is the assessment and protocol information Dr. Anderson uses for assessment of iron status, anemia and iron infusion therapies at his clinic and Sanoviv Hospital.
This is a guideline based on current clinical standards but each clinician must use this information in the proper clinical context for each patient.
